Solgaard releases backpack with interior and exterior fabric made from upcycled ocean plastics. Makes pledge to remove virgin plastics from their supply chain by mid 2019.
Why we are doing this: Ocean bound plastics threaten the oceans from thriving: so we’re taking the plastic out and upcycling it. We need the ocean for the earth to continue to support life. The oceans provide us 70% of our oxygen, 3 billion people rely on the ocean for their primary source of protein.
How we are doing this: We are working with partners in the Maldives and the Philippines to collect plastic from beaches and within 10kms of the coastline, separating the materials collected into two piles: the PET we can use, the other material is sent to another recycling factory. We are also making our shipping solution to be zero-waste – meaning we no additional plastic can find its way into the ocean.
What the product is: The Daypack is a backpack that draws on our expertise in bagmaking, and optimizes into an everyday format. Based on 3 years of testing, research, and customer feedback we believe this to be the perfect everyday, sub $100 backpack.
Who we are: We embrace the term Global Citizen. We are a team of people born all over the world, almost all of us live in a different country from where we were born.
We are Global, We are Solgaard
When: Now – Today we reached our funding goal on Kickstarter, meaning we officially have the green light to move forward with production of our first batch of upcycled ocean products.
Solgaard is a brand making gear for global citizens, with an initial focus on travel gear.
